A first-hand immersion into secrets of Stanislavsky's Method

Slava Stepnov, founder and artistic director of Steps Theatre Production Company is conducting the Workshop for serious acting students. The workshop teaches Russian drama methods. The workshop is primarily intended for intermediate-level students looking to take their skills to the next level.

Slava Stepnov, a graduate of the Russian Academy of the Dramatic Arts (GITIS, Moscow), has been working for the theatre for over 25 years as a director, actor and a playwright. He has written three plays and numerous essays. His directing credits include works by Chekhov, Shakespeare, Pirandello, Lord Byron, Albee, and others. He has worked in theatres in Russia, Georgia, Peru, the United States. Mr Stepnov's teaching credits include Theatre School at Teatro Britanico in Lima, Peru, Theatre School "Alternative" in Russia and annual International Theatre Workshop in NYC.

American critics have called Stepnov's style "movie-esque" and "unique directorial gem". Russian critics referred to him as a "genuine artistic whose choices in a process of searching for forms and expressions are always surprising", and concluded that Stepnov might find himself in the company of such masters as Barishnikov, Nuriev and Brodsky.

A unique opportunity for a direct, unadulterated introduction to the Stanislavsky Method in a workshop consisting of one of Anton Chekhov's plays conducted by Mr. Stepnov. Actors will be presented with ample opportunities to discover the rules and specifications of the Method. Slava Stepnov's workshop is a first-hand immersion into the basic principles of the Stanislavsky school which differentiates itself from numerous treatments and interpretations of the great Russian director.

Method Acting is conscious and professional approach to acting. When it is mastered it gives an actor exceptional possibilities for achieving creative results in the field of dramatic art. Through tangible, conscious means, the Method teaches actors how to bring themselves into a natural, alive state on the stage. It teaches actors the shortest way to accomplish what the director demands of them.

Stanislavsky Method Acting empowered many legendary Hollywood stars to create their most memorable work on stage and in films. Stella Adler, Anthony Quinn, Mala Powers, John Dehner, John Abbot, Akim Tamiroff, Gregory Peck, Julie Harris, Kim Stanley, Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe... - all Method actors.

Through the Method actors can acquire a technique, which consciously will lead them to inspiration. It has been proved vital not only for beginners but also for experienced actors.

Class is limited to 6 people. Repeat students will be given first priority for sign-up. The goal of our workshop is not making money, but the desire to bring together a group of talented actors for Steps Theatre. Best students will be considered for participation in Steps Theatre productions.
